We are excited to announce that we will be running a step challenge this May with an aim to boost both patient’s and staff’s fitness, improve their wellbeing and create an opportunity to connect with their community in which they live or work.
East Warrington PCN , South Warrington PCN and Central East PCN are partnering up to walk the equivalent of John O’Groats to Lands End in a 6 week period, while competing against each other to be the hottest stepper!
We know that Warrington (with a population of around 210,000 people) has the following health challenges:
- 25% of adults are physically inactive
- 32% of children are overweight or obese by year 6
- 64% of adults are overweight or obese
- 11% of people die from heart disease
- 14% of adults live with depression
There is a growing body of scientific evidence suggesting that walking helps to maintain a healthy weight, prevent or manage various conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, strengthen bones and muscles and improving mood, balance and co–ordination. Our step challenge is designed not only to get people moving, but also to foster a sense of community and achievement – key elements for maintaining and improving mental health.
If you are a patient who would like to get involved with the challenge, please fill out the following expression of interest form https://forms.office.com/e/YY0tqKveAx and someone will be in touch via email with more information. Alternatively, please visit the reception of your GP surgery and they will be able to provide paper copies.
Below are a copy of the documents that will be sent to you once you have completed the expression of interest form. You will also be able to find the weekly form to submit your steps here.
